Alive or Dead? (Revelation 3:1-6)

Are you alive or just going through the motions? Zombies have become popular in our culture since the show The Walking Dead became popular. Zombies walk around and eat. From a distance they can appear alive but they really are dead. Now I know zombies are not real and are gross but the truth is many people think they are alive yet really they are dead or dying. Sure they might have been alive at one time but they have lost the spark that brings life. Sadly this is true in many of our churches and among many of our fellow Christians. They act like they are spiritually alive yet in reality they are spiritually dead. They are going through the motions of life, doing the right things but their hearts are dying or dead. They are not being transformed by the Holy Spirit, they are not accomplishing God's purpose for them, they are not attracting others to Jesus because Jesus is alive and they are dead or dying. How can we know if we are truly spiritually alive or just going through the motions? This Sunday we continue our Why Church series with the letter to the church in Sardis. A church that at one time was very alive but now is very dead and discover how we, as Christians and the church, can make sure that we are not spiritual zombies but are a living testament to our living God.
