Forgive us (Matthew 6:12)

Ever seen a kid who was angry and content to be so? “I’m grumpy and I’m gonna stay grumpy!” It’s almost comical to watch and it doesn’t do anything good for their emotional, mental, or relational well-being. Yet their resistance to let it go is strong. We can be the same way when people hurt us, insisting on making them pay with our cold shoulder, our hurtful words, waiting for them to get what’s coming to them, etc. We too can be “grumpy and I’m gonna stay that way.” But aren’t we justified? Isn’t it right to make others pay if they’ve wronged us? Jesus invites us to forgive those who have wronged us. …but we don’t like that. What is forgiveness? How does it work? Are there limits to forgiveness? And if we forgive, do we just let the perpetrator’s off the hook? As we continue our series “Pray Like Jesus,” join us as we explore these questions and Jesus’ invitation to allow forgiveness to shape who we are and how we live all of life.
