God's Love and Ours (Jonah 4:1-11)
Have you heard of the Good Samaritan law? It's "a legal principle that protects people who offer reasonable assistance to those who are injured, ill, in peril, or incapacitated." Its purpose is to take away any hesitation to help based on fear of being sued or prosecuted for unintentional injury or wrongful death. It's about protecting those who cannot accept being a bystander when people are in need Of course the name of the law comes from the parable of the Good Samaritan that Jesus tells. But Jesus never said helping others would be safe. In fact, caring and having compassion for others is anything but safe. It means putting ourselves out there. It means interrupting our schedules. It means stretching our capacity to love. It means caring enough to do something. It means we cannot be just a bystander. It may not be safe to jump into the game but the investment is worth it. How much is just one transformed life worth? To God, the life of His Son. As we wrap up our series on Jonah: Living for More Than Just Me we are going to get right to the heart of God, the condition of the heart of Jonah and discover the condition of our own heart.
